BAXTER ST at the Camera Club of New York, founded originally as The Camera Club of New York in 1884, is one of New York’s oldest arts organizations, providing lens-based artists with both working facilities and platforms for discussions as they develop their practice. In 2014, the organization moved to 126 Baxter St and adopted the new name, BAXTER ST at the Camera Club of New York. BAXTER ST has been certified by Working Artists and the Greater Economy (W.A.G.E.) since 2015. This voluntary program recognizes nonprofits demonstrating a history of, and commitment to, voluntarily paying artist fair fees that meet W.A.G.E. standards. It is the first model of its kind to establish national compensation standards and a clear set of guidelines for the conditions under which artistic labor is contracted.
