Greek Jewish Festival
Sunday, May 21, 2017@12:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
For the 3rd year in a row the annual Greek Jewish Festival returns to Broome Street as part of the Lower East Side History Month’s celebratory events. Be prepared to feast on traditional Greek, Israeli and Sephardic delights while you listen to live music. Meet the communal leadership of the Holy Congregation of Janina and learn about the 2,300 year old history of the Romaniote Jews of Greece. Kehila Kedosha Janina, at the same location on the Lower East Side for the past 89 years, is the last remaining Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere!
Last year’s event drew a crowd of over 6,000 people so be prepared to get bumped around a bit as this year’s turnout may be even larger (if the weather cooperates) due to the rising popularity of the Lower East Side in general. This year’s celebration coordinates with the 90th birthday of the building that houses the museum.
