For the last few days workers have been trailing in and out of the old Rite Aid space on Grand and Clinton Street. We stopped in to speak with the construction manager on duty and he told us they’re doing an internal clean-up only which should take about 2 weeks, that there will NOT be a building being built there, and that a new tenant was imminent. He couldn’t elaborate further.
The work permit below lists “200 Dwelling Units” so who knows what that means. Maybe there will be another monster residential building in the making. Send us a tip using the button at the bottom of the homepage if you have any further info. I have a call in to the Archdiocese of New York, the owner of the property, to find out what’s shaking. Stay tuned.

If you can recall, dozens of Rite Aid locations were shut down last year do the the constant shoplifting taking place there. In the past management told us that they were calling the police 4-5 times a day to have people removed from the store. It’s become an epidemic across this great land and will continue and only get worse because the thieves know that they will only get a slap on the wrist for stealing amounts less than $1,000.
I really do miss my 24×7 Rite Aid though.
