Forsythia

Who knew a few tables nestled under a small staircase could introduce the greater community of NYC to the kind of experience so many have been craving? An experience that is… actually Italian. Forsythia represents that statement exactly. What started as a small apartment pop-up turned comfort dining into a refined hot spot for locals and tourists to enjoy. Forsythia provides a complete escape from NYC reality and transcends guests to the cobblestone steps of Rome. Every component of Forsythia feeds the Italian soul, from our menus that offer multiple courses of traditional fully hand made pastas, to ingredients selected based on their individual growing season, to the exceptional bar rooted in the tradition of Italian spirits. The ambiance and hospitality are nothing less. Rooted in Italian cooking, brought back straight from the source and inspired by the transformative work culture in Italy, Jacob Siwak brought his vision to life with Forsythia and enlisted Executive Chef Emily Swaine (from Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Maialino, and Union Square Café) to create a restaurant that is actually Italian – not Italian-American – in New York City. Forsythia takes its name from the Forsythia flower – the first flower to bloom each spring. It represents a symbol of hope, anticipation, and renewal, surrounded by an abundance of warmth, just as one should feel while dining at the restaurant.
