On one of my intel gathering walks today, I noticed a different color paint on the exterior of Only Love Strangers, and when things change, things are changing – orange is the new blue. So I stepped inside and spoke to the maître d’ and she confirmed that indeed changes were instore for the recently opened Mediterranean restaurant. As it turns out, the ground level will be turned into a specialty Mexican restaurant and Only Love Strangers will be the name of the jazz bar/speakeasy downstairs. The downstairs menu will be a small menu of Mediterranean food similar to what they used to serve upstairs.
I then bumped into Alberto (pictured below,) the Chef of the new ground level Southern Mexican restaurant, and he gave me the low down on what’s in store for the new place which will be named Comida Corrida. Alberto hails from Acapulco, the largest city and port in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. This is where he grew up and where his mother taught him the art of cooking Acapulco style and armed him with a rolodex of recipes that will keep your taste buds tantalized and wanting more. The meals will include the usual rice and beans, but you will have many delicious sauces to choose from to combine with your main dishes. And you’ll get to make your own tacos. Alberto told me that he uses Maguey leaves to wrap around the meat which is then slow-cooked overnight in a pizza oven. This is what gives the meat that delicious taste and soft texture. (my mouth is watering as I write this)

This is a very tough location. It’s a high foot traffic location but it’s not the walkers by that are coming here. This is a destination location, so diners are going out of their way to come here. Several have tried and failed here before, but I’m smelling winner this time. They are shooting for a September opening so stay tuned and get your reservations ready because there will be high demand.
